You give many of the first 18 presidents HP status because they owned slaves, but judge Reagan based on his actual presidency. Something's wrong.

To be fair though, its kind of hard to judge a presidency when it happened 150+ years ago. But then again they can just look at the wiki article I supply and figure out what they actually did and give an overall answer besides just saying "automatic HP" to anything negative.

One of the worst Presidents we've ever had. We are still feeling the negative effects of his administration to this day. Ultimate HP

Arguably the single most damaging president this country has ever had. HP (sane).

I love the polarization here:

FF (Sane, normal, correct)

Corrupt, hypocritical, terrorist-funding, apartheid-supporting, Civil Rights Act-opposing spendthrift with an infantile understanding of policy. I don't care that he looked good on television. HP.

It's true, but the only reason Tea Party exist is because Keynesian liberals pushed until America broke. Those policies continue doing damage to this day. CRA anyone?

Understanding the nature of his profession prior to politics (specifically, the blending of his profession with politics: look up what he was doing in the 1950s) tells us a lot about how he was perceived by the public (along with the later construction of his "legacy"-a myth, narrative, and personality construct that could be used and manipulated by right-wing ideologues). It's fascinating to me that he could sell economic and political policies to Americans in ways that both played to the idealized hopes and latent prejudices of his audience (white "middle-class" America, broadly speaking) while simultaneously, actively and aggressively increasing economic and social inequality through said policies.

Reagan (or more specifically, his inner circle/team) blended ideological zealousness, shrewd political maneuvering, and self-interested governance in a remarkably skillful manner, providing a template and blueprint for every Republican Party project since. Moreover, he convinced Americans across the political spectrum that the United States is a "conservative" country-and he had the simple definition of political conservatism that this country still uses today.

Corrupt fascist scum, bitter enemy to democracy worldwide and friend to violent thug regimes in places like Iraq, Chile, and South Africa.

Country gentleman, now there's a bird that flew
High above his nation, prayed on its weakness
Picked our bones and threw it in his stew
Thank God he went back to California

This, and pretty much the worst post-Great Depression president. I can't call him worse than Herbert Hoover or James Buchanan, but he's definitely the worst besides them.

You think he's worse than Bush? Reagan was super charismatic and lead in a time of peace and prosperity recovered from the miserable failure that is Carter while Bush started two of the longest wars in American history and increased paranoia.

I can't decide if I dislike his presidency or his legacy more.

...reappointing Paul Volker as FED Chairman...

IIRC Reagan and his administration wanted to drop him, but had to resign to keeping him on for fear of a negative market response. They would've absolutely gotten rid of him if they could have; Volcker wasn't much of a team player with the supply-siders.

A social liberal who played a conservative on TV, because his entire life was nothing but living for the applause.

His two-term presidency, embrace of the religious right, and post-presidential hagiography allowed for Bush the Second to happen. GWB was incompetent and his advisers bloodthirsty lunatics, but most of them were around when Reagan was in office.

And Carter was a crap president, but considering the incredible string of bad luck he had...

And anyway, the guy who fixed the economy was appointed by Carter. Reagan deserves no credit for keeping him.

putin won every province of russia and 64% of the popular vote in 2012, so by your logic he's an even bigger freedom fighter.
