During my trip to Denver last week I realized that I didn't recognize the baggage and pickup zone at the airport. My previous trips to Denver were before 1995 and went through Stapleton Airport. I had changed planes in DEN since 1995, but it wasn't until I saw the outside that it occurred to me that this was a different airport. That's in contrast to Chicago Midway, which has completely different terminals since I first used it, but is at the same location.

Been there; done that.  Exhilarating, isn't it?  Apparently it's the highest major airport in the world.  That's why the runway is so long.  (Sparse air and all that...)

Did you fly Lloyd Aero Boliviano, with the chickens and goats?  I did.  Thoroughgoing experience.  I'd definitely do it again if presented with the opportunity.

Exhilarating, sure... nearly died. Simultaneous altitude sickness, lyme disease, and some sort of parasite marked my months in Bolivia. Skin turned grey, fingernails turned black. Did you look around El Alto (the "city" where the airport is located) at all? Apparently it's now the most populated place in the whole country, but the government won't allow a new census. It's a neverending favela upon the altiplano, stretching nearly to Lago Titicaca the last time I was there. Plus it's the most protest-prone place in the country. The two-lane road to the airport was dynamited a number of times during my tenure.

No LAB for me - it suspended ops in 2008. Per the Fly America Act, it was American Airlines for me. On the way back to Miami we made an unexpected (to me) stop at Viru Viru. Apparently sometimes AA makes the stop at Viru Viru on the way to La Paz as well because the plane still has too much fuel and thus is too heavy to land at La Paz.

What took you to Bolivia? I'm guessing some coca tea made your time more pleasant than mine. What a place.

¡Mate de coca!  Never turned it down.

Mostly a pleasure trip.  It was a combined Peru-Bolivia trip.  Four weeks.  I'd always wanted to greet the sunrise at the Inti Punku.  I also was pretty keen on visiting Tiwanaku.  We hiked the Inca Trail from Sacsayhuaman to Machu Picchu back in '02.  That segment was four long days, with my 55-pound Jansport strapped to my back the whole time.  Sleeping in tents in the frigid, 4400-meter high air.  Good times.  You bet I started every day with a touch of the leaf.

LaPaz was particularly bizarre.  Like you said, what a place!  LAB was the cheapest flight back to Miraflores.  Also a very interesting venue.

All airports I've been to (surprisingly no Atlanta)

*Passed by/pick-up
Connection only
Origin and Connection at different times
Origin/Destination

US

Albuquerque
Baltimore
Boston
Charlotte,NC
Charlottesville,VA [home airport]
Chicago/O'Hare*
Dallas/Ft. Worth
Denver
Honolulu
Los Angeles*
Lynchburg, VA [home airport]
Oakland  [home airport]
Orange County,CA*
Phoenix/Sky Harbor
Philadelphia
Reno*
Roanoke, VA [home airport]
Salt Lake City
San Francisco [home airport]
San Jose*
St. Louis
Washington/Dulles
Washington/National

Europe

Dublin
Edinburgh
London/Heathrow
Milan
Prague
Rome
Zurich

Total: 30

10 airports alone in the last 4 years for College, amazing how hard it is to find a consistently cheap airline and connection Tongue

Best Overall (so far): Zurich (Even 12 years later, I can still remember it decently...no airport in the U.S. has matched it...not even SF's new terminal)

Best in the U.S.: Charlotte (Simple layout, great food options, and rocking chairs...I'd rather layover here  than arrive or depart in Dulles)

Worst Overall: Los Angeles (Used 3 of the 8 terminals and they were all dirty and with terrible food choices, and absymal staff)

Worst in Europe: London/Heathrow (Still better than most U.S. airports, but nonetheless it's crowded as hell compared to other 6 I've been to and hard to get to.)

I wish I could have had coca tea. My colleagues who were permitted acclimated much more easily. I suffered a lot as a result of Nancy Reagan's prudery.

Sounds like an awesome trip. I still want to make it to Peru one of these days.

A small regional airport back home, and only to pick up my aunt when she flew in. Never been on an airplane before.

I'm not exactly sure how many I have been to.  Not more than 75 I'd guess.

I can add Orlando International Airport in Florida and Queen Beatrix International Airport in Aruba to the list since I made that post.

I might add that I liked Orlando.  Parking was easy and cheap (ten dollars per day, on campus, which is relatively inexpensive as international airports in the US go), with a shuttle every ten minutes to and from the lot.  Free Wi-fi in the terminal, and it actually is a strong enough signal to be reliable.  Reasonably comfortable chairs.  No shoe or belt removal in the security lines.  No bag check upon re-entry to the country.  Very smooth.  Hotter than hell outside, though.  The temperature was 104°F on the Volvo when we got back to it after a week.  Probably more like 140 in the cab.  We had to leave all the doors open for about five minutes before we could stand to get back into the car.
