At least if we're talking about Lyndon Johnson.

Both were amoral bastards who manipulated American economic and foreign policy to their own short-term political gain and had it blow up in their faces, thank God.

So you support segregation and institutionalized racism?

This, basically. Plus Nixon's worst >>> Johnson's. Let's not be silly here.

I don't know if you have noticed, but hating Johnson doesn't mean you support racism and segregation. There was much more to Johnson's presidency than that.

And, what's worse, he got caught.

Johnson was the most masterful and ruthless political operator out of all the Presidents.

Nixon was more ineptly evil.

Meh...

Both were amoral bastards who manipulated American economic and foreign policy to their own short-term political gain and had it blow up in their faces, thank God.

By comparison with Presidents since then:

Ford: rather humble, seems like a guy you'd want to talk sports with or something.
Carter: the other extreme of sanctimonious self-righteousness and moralism.
Reagan: just made sh*t up, and people bought it. Because Hollywood.
Bush Sr: weird Ivy League preppie type. Was more cautious than Reagan, but since he was head of the CIA...amoral by necessity.
Clinton: sleazy womanizer and rogue, but he could feel your pain, or at least pretend to convincingly.
Bush Jr: lol, what a goofy weirdo. Fake cowboy meets locker-room jock. Hahaha.
Obama: seems like a good guy on a personal level, if reserved and aloof.

Overall they've mostly been amoral scumbags, weirdos, overly ambitious crazy people, narcissists, etc. Can't count on politicians to be moral or decent people.

The Nixon Tapes surely showed what a nasty guy he was.  LBJ, no angel, but carried on the JFK legacy in some respects at the public level.  Nixon at the public level was using the Southern Strategy.

So yea, Nixon.

Nixon was LBJ 2.0

The spawn of evil is worse than its progeny.
