He hammered Noriega and Hussein, and he made pragmatic domestic policy decisions, though conservatives may not like all of them. He stopped the CIA from deteriorating into a clandestine government agency as director of the CIA. Immigration policy reform added to what Reagan did during his two terms. Put Clarence Thomas on the SCOTUS.

Ultimately, HW was a one term president because of economic deterioration, and his obsession with legislating morality (at least in rhetoric). The latter was my primary issue with his presidency. Points of Light and syrupy rhetoric, but he punched his own people as hard as he hit the enemy in my estimation.

Still, FF on balance.

I liked him, he was not as radical as Reagan and his son and he seemed to me as a good bureaucrat. Good  Foreign Policy and he was doomed to fail by many circumstances. My vote will be strategical, George the First is better than Reagan, so I will vote FF just to help him...

lol, horrible HORRIBLE President!

Also lol at the people who think he was better than Reagan.  HW Bush, as President, was basically Reagan with half the jokes, half the rhetoric, and about twice the absurdity.  This whole revisionism of HW Bush as the Last Great Moderate Hope is by far one of the most genius urban legends cooked up in the last three decades.  I mean, and not to say I like the man, but Reagan at least wasn't removed enough to seriously campaign on "NO NEW TAXES!" when he ran for President.  And that's before we mention that many of Reagan's reforms were actually ideas pushed by Bush and his cronies, so yeah.  But hey, as long as a president looks and sounds "proper", the Atlas Forum can forget about everything that said president actually stood for while in office.  I bet by this time next year, some of you idiots will actually think Bush pushed for Gay Marriage.

Le sigh.

Pandering or not, his comment on atheists was probably the dumbest thing ever uttered by a President, in or out of office.

Involved in at least one presidential assassination and one attempted assassination.

No, that's not true.

FF, and one more time, it's super depressing that this forum thinks Ronald Reagan is worse than Herbert Hoover. Hoover and Carter were almost as similar to each other as LBJ and Nixon.

In Addition to Reagan, Carter is also a better president than James Monroe, Theodore Roosevelt, Andrew Jackson, (His approval rating is way too low), James K. Polk, and John F. Kennedy, all of which are better than Carter.
