... turning around, and noticed that one of your arms felt like "rubber" without bones in it ?

And you wield it around and can't "feel" the bones ?

Happened to me today and this is a very weird and terrifying experience, because the nerves are cut off for about 1 minute and then they "switch back on".

You mean the staticky feeling that happens when you lie on something for too long, kind of like when your foot falls asleep?

I don't know what else you might be referring to.  Please share what you are smoking.

Yeah sounds like your arm fell asleep really, really well. When that happens to me I just worry I'm going to hurt myself before I regain sensation.

A few weeks ago I woke up to turn on the fan I keep in my bedroom, as it was a hot night. But when I slid to the edge of the bed and went to stand up, my legs completely gave. I could feel them, and bend my knees at will, but my legs refused to support the rest of me. Now that was puzzling. But the brain is an exceptionally complex thing that can sometimes do random, nonsensical things. On another occasion I had sleep paralysis. Hope that it doesn't happen to you.

Don't worry, I didn't smoke anything ... Wink

There's a difference between your arm "falling asleep" and the thing I described:

* if your arm falls asleep, it's likely a blood circulation problem and could be a medical problem. And you can still feel your bones in the arm, it only prickles a bit in your arm.

* the thing I described is because I went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning my arm was completely numb and "without a bone", therefore like "rubber", and I could bounce it around.

I think my arm went somewhere while I slept and I lay on it for a while, which led to nerves being cut off. The nerves usually come back in a minute though. Still weird.

Yeah I still reckon that it's just an extreme of your arm falling asleep. I have felt the same thing, your arm might as well be cut of meat. It's completely foreign.  I noticed I got it with my arm curled around under my pillow to support my head. Something in the position must cut off a nerve and not just blood, like you said.

Yeah, your arm just fell asleep really well. Give it a moment and then the circulation comes back and it tingles like it normally wood and then you'll have full movement and like normal. It happens from time to time depending on how you sleep/where your arm went.

Yeah.... this happens... where it falls asleep beyond the point where you have the pins and needles sensation.  You've completely put the nerves to sleep so that while you might have use of the arm or leg from the joint above... it's  completely dead weight below that.  Try walking on that!  You'll feel pretty funny and you might even understand for a minute what people with prosthetics feel like.

I've woken up with one of my arms unable to move and it takes a little bit for blood to get flowing through it again, and I might have felt what you described as well--unwieldy, useless, rubbery, etc.

This used to happen to me nearly every morning. It's pretty creepy. You can regain control of the arm faster if you rub it.

Someone called "Small L" is talking about rubbing things while you're lying in bed... Tongue

Yeah the things I do when that happens is flail the arm around like a mace (because it usually cant happen like that!) rub it alot, and really focus on moving my fingers like kill bill 1 style.

when you move your fingers it feels weird and jerky but the responses are calming and probably help the circulation too.

I have had it happen. It almost paralyzes your arm. Your moving it, but you can't feel it for a while. Bugs the crap out of me, but I flail my arms around and bang it on the bed or wall until I regain some feeling, within a half a minute.

You mean your arm is asleep when you wake up? Yeah, I've had that happen before. I've also had sleep paralysis before, which is far worse.

I've woken up with one of my arms numb, but luckily it hasn't happened recently.  During one semester of college, I slept on a futon almost every night.  A few times I'd wake up and the back of my head would be numb.

Unfortunately I can't read the title without this going through my head:

Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy
Grab my glasses out the door I'm about to hit the city
Before I leave brush my teeth with a bottle of jack
Because when I leave for the night I ain't coming back

Dammit. Luckily that's where I quit knowing the words.

Oh, so I'm not the only one who immediately thought of that.
