Democrats take early swing at GOP's likely candidate for Governor (NV)...
«
on:
March 26, 2005, 02:54:45 pm »
Democrats came out swinging Thursday, attacking the presumptive Republican nominee for governor a full year and a half before the election.
The Nevada Democratic Party is trying to use Rep. Jim Gibbons' own words against him.
"This is about making sure people don't forget what Jim Gibbons said," party spokesman Jon Summers said at a Thursday news conference to announce the placement of three billboards around the state attacking Gibbons.
Gibbons, through a spokeswoman, declined to comment.
Two billboards in Las Vegas and one in Reno take Gibbons to task for saying recently, "It's just too damn bad we didn't buy them a ticket" of people who wanted to be human shields in Iraq.
The Democratic Party also has a Web site,
www.gibbonsfacts.com
, that seeks to make Gibbons look bad.

It's NV, not NM, nick. Might want to fix that.
I was thinking to myself "Why would the NM Dems take a swing at the GOP candidate when Richardson is very likely to win re-election?"

I don't think Gibbons has to worry. He seems to have a good chance in the Primary against the current Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt and in the General.

Buying the ones who want to be human shields tickets to Iraq sounds good. Put up, or shut up.

Bryan was Nevada's other Dem Senator in the 90s.

The so-called human shields were the ones who volunteered to protect Saddam's military establishments. I agree with the future Governor. If they wanted to go that bad, buy them a ticket. The fools who did go quickly found out that Saddam was using them (go figure), and got the hell out of there as soon as the bombs started falling. Idiots!

With the Senate races last year, it seems there is no limit to what the GOP rank and file will put up with with their senators- at long as they have the (R) next to their name.

Byrd has been senator since 1958, so his incumbency advantage is Death-Star like. Bunning was a first-term senator, and Coburn and DeMint won open seats.
