Is there even a quota in this election? Since the race is only for one seat, what would be the point of redistributing excess votes?

Well, the current state of the race is like this, with 36 ballots cast:

Alfred 13
Simfan 8
Deus 7
JCL 4
Poirot 3
Hatman 1

Since there's one candidate to be elected, the quota is 19. Redistribution proceeds like so:

Alfred 13
Simfan 8
Deus 7
JCL 4
Poirot 4

Alfred 15
Simfan 9
Deus 7
JCL 5

Alfred 15
Simfan 12
Deus 9

Simfan 20
Alfred 15
exhausted 1

Having exceeded the quota, Simfan would be elected.

This a fun race so far, though my best guess would probably be Senator Alfred F. Jones.

I don't see any reason to think that. Simfan will win the voters of every major party besides Labor- he's probably a solid favorite.

It all depends on that next to final round whether it's Alfred v. Simfan or Alfred v. Deus.

It truly depends on whether people want purity or a Senator. Look at the polls.

I'm afraid Simfan is shaping up to be the winner in the early hours of voting.

And 'twas cast well, though I'd have understood if you had made your Simfanly intent known to us all by preferencing first.

Heh...that's what everyone thought after the first day of the last special Senate election. Never trust the first day's counts.

I suppose. Perhaps a mass fugue state on the center-left? And Adam, I do hope you've got some fun tricks up your sleeve.

Let's not be so sure I'll be making the final round- and we see what we happens in an Alfred-Deus matchup.

I'd just like to congratulate Simfan and Deus (and to a lesser extent JCL and Poirot) for campaigns well run. Good show, all of you.

I must say I'm a little bit surprised at the sheer amounts of negativity from all sides. I mean, it makes my Senate run in the Midwest look colorless...
