I don't know what form US intervention would take save that I'd assume that for centuries hence the name "Simfan" would be uttered with as much venom as "Cromwell".

Likely global sanctions, in the vein of what was done to South Africa. Probably expulsion from NATO. I'm not sure who would want to take military action, though, given that they have a massive store of nuclear weapons roughly equivalent to Israel's.
