Hello, Cleveland. Good to see you all here. I've recently been contemplating my place in politics for the future. As you know, I ran a good race in the Democratic primaries, although we ultimately had no viable path, so I stopped my campaign after Super Tuesday. I'm very proud of the work that we did then. It gives me hope that there are enough Americans who are ready to speak up and to stand for what they believe in.

The Democratic contest is now over, and here comes the general election. Between Rudy Giuliani and Joe Biden, from the two big parties, I find faults in both men. One could say that Senator Biden is the better choice between the two, but I can no longer say that I am satisfied with just sticking with the lesser of two evils. Indeed, the Senator's record has many blights. I cannot be totally confident that a President Biden would lead a peaceful administration based on his willingness to intervene across the world. Taking that and other positions such as on domestic surveillance into consideration, I've come to the conclusion that the American people can do better.

Many people across the country have been drafting me to continue running for President in some manner. I can now make a public declaration after much thought: I shall seek the Green Party nomination for President. The Green Party is very compatible with my views, and I hope that we can do good work together for this country's well-being. I endorsed Senator Edwards after I left the Democratic race, but with him out, I also encourage the delegates I received to still vote for me in the convention. The establishment has to know that we're a force and we're here to stay!

With my campaign back in force, I will tour around the country and make my pitch to the American people. Whether I win or lose, I hope that we're all left better off in the end. Thank you all, and I'll see you around!

OOC: I am going away from June 14th to the 20th. Can I write my schedules ahead of time and send them to NHI, IDS Legislator Maxwell, or Governor Riley Keating and have them post them on my behalf?  I don't want the game go get held up on my accord.
Ok, that's fine. IDS Legislator Maxwell, if you don't mind that'd b great.

Round XXI: April 13-20

The General Election has begun. Joe Biden became the presumptive nominee last night after John Edwards suspended his campaign. Biden will now face Republican nominee and Vice President Rudy Giuliani. Other candidates in the race include libertarian Gary Johnson and now Dennis Kucinich, who announced at a rally in Ohio he would be seeking the Green Party's nomination. Kucinich blasted both Giuliani and Biden as one in the same. Up until now now other third party candidate has been apart of the polling save for Johnson.

Upcoming Conventions:
May 26-31: The Libertarian Convention in Atlanta
June 23-28: The Green Party Convention in Milwaukee
July July 25-26: The Democratic Convention in Boston
Round XXIV: August 29-Sep. 2: The Republican Convention in New York City

Author's Note:
With the addition of Dennis Kucinich, the Green Party Convention will be included in Round XXII (Which will also include the Libertarian Convention)

NHI, I'm sure our third party participants would love to know the status of Represent America ballot initiatives. They should probably focus on those states to maximize their electoral vote.

Can you maybe implement a system by which forum members cans be Outside Spendin Groups?

Biden Surrogates: Left Flank

Rep. Barbara Lee (CA)

"I'll be honest: most of us in the progressive caucus are mystified. Senator Biden is a strong Democrat, and has been a leader on many of the same issues he [Rep. Kucinich] champions." - Rep. Lee to POLITICO, on Kucinich's third-party bid for President.

April 13-20
Barnstorming in major Ohio cities

Sen. Ted Kennedy (MA)

"Oh please. Liberals want a leader, not a sore loser." - Sen. Kennedy to WashPo, on Kucinich's third-party bid for President.

April 13-20
Barnstorming in New York

Rep. Tammy Baldwin (WI)

"I have to concur with Barbara Lee. We are not sure the true aim of Kucinich's announcement. But it is indicative of his 'my-way-or-the-highway' brand of liberalism that is a detriment to society and democracy; the same as with hard-right hardliners. I don't think many voters want that, or consider that even a leadership trait." - Rep. Baldwin on MSNBC w/ Keith Olberman

April 13-20
Barnstorming in majority/plurality gay neighborhoods in New York City, Orlando, & Phoenix.

Jesse Jackson

"In another world I might have endorsed Congressman Kucinich. But I am glad to be supporting Senator Biden this year, and we need to mobilize our community to get him elected!" - To voters during barnstorming

April 13-20
Barnstorming in Miami Gardens, Charlotte, & New Orleans

Rev. Al Sharpton

April 13-20
Meeting with black church leaders in Virginia & North Carolina, pushing for strong Biden support from them

John Edwards Press Conference

Chapel Hill, North Carolina

I have a feeling that if the leaders of our great Democratic Party continue to hear the voices of working people, a proud progressive will occupy the White House. I believe that Senator Biden will make ending poverty central to his campaign for the presidency - but more importantly, I believe that, as President of the United States, he will make ending poverty and economic inequality central to his Presidency. This is the cause of my life, and he is someone who I believe will engage in this cause. I'm proud to offer him my support in his campaign for the Presidency. But more importantly, I'm proud to stand here alongside the national leaders who stood alongside me, good men who were willing to hear the voices of people living in poverty across America - Senator Graham, Majority Leader Gephardt, and General Clark. We stand united behind Senator Biden, just as we will stand behind him enthusiastically when he becomes our 44th President in November.

Can you maybe implement a system by which forum members cans be Outside Spendin Groups?

I would also be interested in this. Can't let y'all go unchallenged, of course. Tongue

Statement from Biden for America
For Immediate Release; April 19, 8:01am

As with any campaign, the team can change. We are excited to announce the smooth beginning of the transition between Biden for America and the DNC. The transition is expected to be finalized before May 1.

Because of this transition, some members of the campaign team have been offered opportunities to make 2004 a winning election on a broader scale. We are pleased to congratulate Ted Kaufman on his appointment to lead the Vice Presidential search committee. Below is also a final list of all of the candidates being vetted and interviewed.

We also congratulate Paul Hodes, who will be leaving Biden for America to serve as a national co-chair for the DCCC in New England. Paul has been a trusted advisor to Senator Biden and we are confident in his ability to help the Democrats running for congress in New England, and also help Senator Biden win the region.

Luis Navarro has served the campaign admirably and last week told the Senator he would be stepping down as campaign manager, to spend the next two months resting and spending time with his family. Navarro is still on contract with the campaign and will take a leadership role after his planned absence.

The campaign team is also remorse to say farewell to Jay Carney, who has been appointed by Senator Biden to coordinate efforts between the campaign and the Democratic National Convention in Boston. We can also at this time announce that Carney will serve as communications director for the Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Karin Johanson has been on leave and sorely missed since after March. We are thrilled to announce that Johanson will rejoin Biden for America as Regional Field Director for the Mid-West.

Below is the Biden for America campaign staff, including new hires:

Campaign Staff:
Campaign Manager: Ron Klain
Press Secretary: Stephanie Cutter
Chief Adviser: Valerie Biden
Political Director: Bruce Reed
Communications Director: Paul Begala
Policy Director: Mario Cuomo
Vice Presidential Committee Chair: Ted Kaufman
Field Director: TBA
Regional Field Director (Mid-West): Karin Johanson
Regional Field Director (South West): TBA
Regional Field Director (Pacific West): TBA
Regional Field Director (New England): TBA
Regional Field Director (Upper South): TBA
Regional Field Director (Deep South): TBA

OOC: I know it's been long since I last played, but NHI has allowed me to pop in again as Al Gore:

Press Conference by former Vice President Al Gore in Memphis, Tennessee:
You all know that I hav backed Senator Edwards as my candidate for the presidency. I have done this for numerous reasons, the most important however being that I could be sure he was a man of the people, a man that will care for the common man, as guaranteed by his heritage and history in the Senate. Since his exit from the race, I have considered long times if I should endorse Senator Biden as well. In the end however, I decided to not choose this option. I will however endorse Dennis Kucinich, the Green Party nominee, for president. Mr Kucinich is a man that can be sure to work for the people, and also, he is a man that will really care for our environment. The man-made climate change is a increasingly pressing issue, and should therefore be considered when deciding for a man to elect!
Furthermore, I will start an initiative, the Give Tennessee A Choice initiative, that will fight for ballot access for the Green Party in Tennessee, as well as of numerous other small parties.

Statement from Congressman Kucinich

I am delighted to earn the endorsement of former Vice President Al Gore. Vice President Gore has invested much of his time on pressing issues such as climate change, and we here at the campaign are excited to work with him to create a better environment and a better nation.
