http://www.pokernews.com/news/2014/03/graham-chaffetz-introduce-bills-to-ban-internet-gambling-17864.htm

The Chaffetz and Graham measures are backed by Republican uber-donor, and Las Vegas casino owner, Sheldon Adelson, former New York Governor George Pataki, Former Arkansas Senator Blanche Lincoln, Texas Governor Rick Perry and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

Graham's Senate bill is co-sponsored by Dianne Fienstein (D-California) Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Kelly Ayotte (R- New Hampshire)

Chaffetz's companion bill is co-sponsored by Tulsi Gabbard (D- Hawaii-2), Jim Matheson (D -Utah-4), Lamar Smith (R-Texas-21), Jim Jordan (R-Ohio-4), Trent Franks (R-Arizona-8), George Holding (R-North Carolina-13), Frank Wolf (R-Virginia-10), James Lankford (R-Oklahoma-5) and Emanuel Cleaver (D-Missouri-5).

I believe these bills are naked pandering to Sheldon Adelson.

This is shameful. And of course, it's bipartisan.

Because, yeah, we definitely need more bipartisanship in Washington. Roll Eyes

Lindsey Graham, Dianne Feinstein, and Rick Perry. Good to see all my least favorite politicians acting in concert.

But we need bipartisanship! After all, shouldn't the party that won 49% of the vote roll over completely for the winner and let democracy take its course! Tongue.

Yep red lights should be going off if all three of them agree on something.

Blanche Lincoln got defeated in a landslide, she should leave us alone now. I thought those were the rules Sad

Gambling, not gaming. Can you please change the title, thanks Smiley

Anyway, this is incredibly stupid. I just hope this doesn't have bipartisan support outside of the people that created it.

Yeah, this is pretty blatant pandering to the casino industry.

Mike Lee is the most surprising name on that list. I expect this from moderate hacks like Feinstein, Graham and Lamar, but I thought he had that whole libertarian Tea schtick going on. Perhaps he's truly worried of a primary challenge in 2016?

Anyone who wants casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson's money has to support this.

Feinstein is awful enough that I abstained last time.

Well, the problem with saying simply casino industry is that some casinos actually operate these sites... This is more like pandering specifically to Sheldon Adelson.

Yeah, every bipartisan bill is some awful bill curbing civil liberties. Absolutely pathetic.

Pro-civil liberties bills are often bipartisan too. It's true there are more anti-civil liberties bills that are bipartisan than pro-civil liberties, but there are more anti-civil liberties bills in general.
Anyway I'm not sure how online gambling qualifies as a civil liberty any more than any other economic activity.

Online gambling is awful.  You don't win at gambling but the games are a fun social experience. Online gambling takes that part away and it's just a huge robbery.

I support IRL gambling but online can screw.

Also, populist joke: "do online stock brokers count?"

Online gambling seems robbing poor people with gambling problems, except everywhere and everywhere. It just seems really sad and awful.

Yes, but that is not why they want to ban it.
