Back in the day when he supported Ron Paul in 2012, the name "20RP12" made sense. As he drifted left, he made up a different interpretation of those letters and numbers. However, the time had come. People began calling him by the name "R2" anyway since who wants to type "20RP12" a million times to refer to him? Thus, the transition from "20RP12" to "R2D2" was a natural one.
