Harry I know about the whole standards of living, but it comes at the cost of freedom. See maybe our differing political views just don't jive with our views on what we consider freedom.

I believe in majority rules, in free trade, free enterprise, freedom of speech. What always made the United States a great country was that we were the opposite of the rest of the world.

While Hitler banned smoking and created vast totalitarian order in Europe, Americans were smoking cigarettes and drinkin' Tennessee whiskey.

While the Japanese and Germans had brutal concentration or death camps, the camp we had for Japanese Americans didn't include sick torture, abuse or extermination.

An Axis war leader once said, "I'd never want to invade the United States, because there would be a gun in the back of every soldier." The Jews didn't have weapons. Resistance groups failed. America was FOUNDED on a resistance victory against Britain.

We got rid of Europe here a long time ago for the specific purpose of not being Europe. Dare I say, that most Americans, even our leaders in the 1940s, thought more like ME than like you. By thinking like me, we won.

What if our WWII leaders thought like you? I don't believe victory could have been assured. That is why I'm such a pain in the butt about being against liberalism. I think it threatens us.

Sheesh, Gully.  How many pages are you going to drag this thread out?  And what is this, about the XVth "petition to ban so-and-so" thread you've made?  How many people pile onto these threads, discussing the ins and outs of who should be banned, as if this is some kind of reality TV show, rather than people's lives?  This is really sad.

I'm sorry that I have to piss on your freak show, but your repeated "petition to ban Poster X" threads show you to be an attention seeking troll (he says diplomatically).  Your contributions do little good, and these threads have become a forum circus, which are followed by the chronically bored and 'ironists' alike.  It's clear that no matter how much we try to dissuade you, you ignore our advice and are really only interested in the attention.  Given the difficulties of your life and the way that you abuse the forum, I think it would be best if you were banned instantly.

Right now Atlas is in a pretty terrible state even by its own standards. I think we should take steps towards improving it and this would be the first.

Withdrawal in Afghanistan would not have been telegraphed to the world, so the Taliban would not as strongly be waiting in the wings. Rebels would have been armed in both Libya and Syria. Assad would probably be on his way out. There would have been tougher and more immediate sanctions on Russia.

Au contraire, I am so not a racist.  Let's look at the facts:

-Have black friend (more than one, in fact)
-Live in a black neighborhood
-Just played tennis with my cousin who is ~50% black

-Dated people from the following races: white, black, asian, latino, other.

Just a personal note me and Teachout.  She and I were actually attending Yale around the same time with a three year overlap (she was a year ahead of me.)  I do remember her as the Editor‐in‐Chief of The Yale Daily News Magazine.  It would not surprise me if she and I attended some political science class at the same time.  Anyway none of this would get me to vote for her as if given a chance I would for sure vote Cuomo.
