There aren't very many competitive races in Tennessee this year, but I thought I'd start a discussion thread for Tennessee anyway.

Here is the Politics1 page.

Also a news story that appeared in my local newspaper, The Oak Ridger, today, concerning the Republican primary in my house district, the third.

I'm not sure whom you're talking about. Terry Adams, maybe?

Is Tennessee really worth going after when there's MS/KY/GA?

Hat tip to The Oak Ridger, which printed a shorter version of this article in its July 1 issue, which is how I found it.

I just saw that Carr recently went up with a new ad. The topic of it is, you guessed it, amnesty.

Yeah, I saw that ad while watching the CBS Evening News earlier. My first thought was to wonder why the audio and video quality were so poor.

I saw the ad on local TV here in the Nashville market. Not very good.

Polls close at 8PM ET and 7PM CT tonight. The most important races on the congressional level will be the Senate primary in which incumbent Lamar Alexander faces challenges by state rep. Joe Carr and physician George Flinn, CD-4, in which U.S. Rep. Scott Desjarlais faces a challenge from State Sen. Jim Tracy, and CD-3 (my district), in which U.S. Rep. Chuck Fleischmann is receiving a surprisingly strong challenge from Weston Wamp, the 27-year-old son of Fleischmann's predecessor, Zach Wamp.

Ugh, just learned Desjarlais' district is R+18, so there's little to no chance he loses his seat. Why didn't the Democrats recruit Lincoln Davis to run again?

I like him a lot, but besides being 70 years old, he doesn't live in the district. He's from Fentress County; the northern part of his old CD4 was moved to CD6.

Conversely, Bart Gordon lives in the current CD4, as it now includes Rutherford County.

Forgot about redistricting, rats.

Well what about the guy who ran in 2012? I looked at Lenda Sherrell's site, and it looks like she's running a really shoddy campaign that is way too positive.

Eric Stewart was actually a pretty good recruit and would have made the race a tossup before Obama, IMO.

Though he ran for the House in 2012, in 2013 he made a trip to another house. The big house.

Wow. Did not know that, guess that rules him out.

CD-3: Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Ooltewah) raised over $250,000 in the third quarter, leaving him with about $785,000 CoH, while state Sen. Bo Watson (R-Hixson) is still mum on whether he will launch a primary challenge next year.

Any thoughts on the Starett-DesJarlais primary in TN-04?  I'm backing Starett, but it will be close.  While both are very conservative, Starett does not have the scandals that DesJarlais does, and I have some friends who are friends with him.

And the only real reason i can see is that Cohen is white. Frankly speaking - racism plain and simple.. And we are surprised that white racism didn't went extinct after Civil Rights era. In such situation it will exist for a long time to come... I see no problems with Blacks, Hispanics and everyone else elected everywhere, but the same applies to whites too. No one is "entitled" to Congressional seat only because it has "fitting" skin color....

CD-3: US Rep. Chuck Fleischmann (R-Ooltewah) has $931,897 cash on hand going into the new year, and has yet to draw a primary challenger after state Senate Speaker Pro Tem Bo Watson (R-Hixson) announced he would not challenge Fleischmann last month. Fleischmann was first elected in a crowded primary in 2010, and faced serious primary challenges in both 2012 and 2014.

CD-9: Harris has confirmed to Cohen he will not run, according to the alternative weekly the Memphis Flyer.

CD-9: And Harris has now publicly confirmed he's not running. Meanwhile, Republican Shelby County Commissioner Steve Basar is considering and says he'll make his decision in late February or early March.

CD-4: Starrett raised $91,699 in the fourth quarter, leaving him with $728,773 cash on hand. However, the vast majority of his contributions are from out of state, and naturally the DesJarlais campaign has made note of that.
