Couldn't we apply this bill also for Austria? Tongue

Totally fine with it.

I have to say I oppose this. We shouldn't be shoveling money out the door Enron style. Maybe could we charge a small fee to offset the cost?

We could negotiate with Apple so they get it cheaper?
Although now that you say it, this is really an unnecessary waist of money.

I'd offer this amendment:

Why not? Macs are good laptops.

rough estimate of cost:

population of the pacific: ca. 65.7 million
population of atlasia: ca. 312.9 million

number of public school students in atlasia: ca. 49.5 million
=> estimated number of public school students in the pacific: ca. 10.4 million

cost of a mac laptop: at least $1000
the cheapest laptops seem to be around $200

cost of original bill: ca. $10.4 billion
cost of cranberry's amendment: between $1.04 billion (if all students use the second option) and $2.6 billion (if all students use the first option)

this is a rough estimate, of course -- for one thing, i've completely ignored any sort of negotiations or bulk prices.

Guys, no. Come on. This is the kind of frivolous orgy of spending we need to be avoiding.

Why is the government awarding a no-bid contract to Apple?

Because they hate the ability to repair things?

Can we get actual stimulus plans going?  The pacific does not have this money.  Please for the love of god let's start drafting a stimulus plan for the 15b you just received.  If we fail to do so within the month I will ensure these funds are automatically rescinded.  It's great that the council wants to discuss these ideas but put your regions situation into perspective please.  Now stop making me write posts on my phone.

Communication was very poor through that whole process, and evidently it continues to be very poor. I was under the impression that we were spending it, but perhaps what the federal government would like to see is, say, a chart?

Poor?  Reading the bill might clear things up?..

These are federal funds appropriated for Pacific aid, so yes, the federal government expects oversight on how the stimulus is used.  I say again, if we do not commit to a Joint proposal, as legally required, $15b will be automatically rescinded.  I sent you a PM regarding the appropriate thread, now the ball is in your court Governor.

As a non-Atlasian I feel concerned enough just to note this about the proposed act.

Forget that amendment, that total bill. We definitely have other things to do.

It appears this did not pass, but honestly, I'd have a tough time with this due to the cost and also I tend to be of a BOOKS first kind of thought. Pumping technology in isn't always an end-all-be-all kind of thing.
