I wanted to vote 'yes' in protest of this poll, but since there is still a number people who sincerely think it is, I had to vote no.

You do realize in the real world, it's probably the prevalent view, right?

You really can't decide on important social issues by listening to the people on some dumb MTV show.

Lol. People probably aren't "born" gay, but there's no reason to believe it's a "choice". (Apologies for the PR-style scare quotes)

Ugh, I forgot MTV still existed.  It hasn't been watchable in 30 years.

Basically this. The whole debate makes little sense to me, tbh.

I'm sure that some people are "born gay", but homosexual behavior is also an existential choice that has been en vogue or damnable, based upon the culture and era in question.

An ancient Roman patrician, for instance, might not have any qualms about having homosexual relations with a male slave, but the connotations of sexual relationships were different back then, as well.

Being gay is not a choice, but acting gay is a choice? I dunno.

Okay... some guy goes out of his way to get into dudes.  What makes you care more, or what about that makes it more justifiable for society to ostracize and discriminate?

I don't personally care, but, legally speaking, orientation and sexual behavior must be separate concepts. Religion also speaks against undisciplined sexual behavior. Somehow, those teaching morphed into gay-bashing and electroshock therapy.

Who would choose to be a discriminated-against minority that large sections of the country (and larger sections of the world) hate? Doesn't make any sense.

I believe there's a lot of bisexuals who are heterosexual by choice, but no to this question.

That's a good summation of my thoughts, too.

I mean, at the end of the day, it is a preference. What makes it any different from, say, someone's taste for broccoli? Obviously human society has made it so that "sexuality" is far more important than broccoli, but I don't think either preference is innate. Nature wouldn't hold sexuality up on a pedestal.

That being said, "choice" might not be the best word, either. It's interesting.

Oh, yes it would and does in any creature that uses sexual reproduction.

The real answer to me is that sexual orientation is complicated.  There's some genetics, some experience, some hormonal and developmental aspects.  But, there's very little conscious choice by an individual.
