Sad to hear this; he was an American hero, and it is sad to hear of his passing.

Forgive me for being insensitive, but a lot of the figures from the Carter era are dropping like flies this week .

According to the reports accompanying this, it was more than he could imagine as well.  He had stated that if he had known at the outset that it would be a seven year ordeal, he doubted he would have the strength to endure it, but because he only needed to have the strength to endure one day at a time, he was able to find it within himself.
