Five-term U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, Jr., (D-TN) has defeated former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker (D-TN) in the hotly contested U.S. Senate race here in the Volunteer State.

The Associated Press reported Ford won narrowly with 50.25% of the vote to Corker's 49.42% ; Ford also carried 40 out of the state's 95 counties. Due in fact to the coattails of popular Governor Phil Bredesen (D), who was overwhelmingly reelected with 67% of the vote in securing a second term in the Tennessee Executive Mansion.

Ford's victory makes him Tennessee's first African American United States Senator and the first from the South as well as the second in the U.S. Senate, serving with U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL).

If Claire McCaskill or Jim Webb wouldn't have gained momentum as much as they did, it would have been possible Harold Ford would of made it.

If he had beat Bob Corker, I'm sure everyone in D.C. and on Politico's payroll would be hailing him as a Presidential contender. However, he would probably lose re-election, due to the fact, for one thing, Tennessee is moving further right, and two, he would probably be seen as very insider-y.

I think Ford would have won reelection in 2012 (assuming Obama was elected President).

McCaskill managed to win reelection in a Red state like Missouri.

TN is redder, and there's no guarantee he'd face someone like Akin.

Two years later Hillary Clinton selects Senator Ford to be on her ticket.

They defeat McCain/Lieberman with 300+ electoral votes.

If Ford was Hilary's VP, who would Gov. Bredesen have appointed to Ford's U.S. Senate seat?

Probably either Bart Gordon or Steve Cohen.

That would be good picks to replace Ford, Jr., in the Senate.

I assume a special election would have taken place in 2010 correct ?

Probably at the same time as the 2010 midterms. I am thinking that whoever Governor Bredesen appointed would be favored to win the seat, as there would not be that much of a backlash to Hillary Clinton in the 2010 midterms because she would have focused more on economic issues during her first year in office as opposed to pushing though an Obamacare-like law. In addition, Hillary Clinton is much more popular with rural white voters than Obama and would have likely carried Tennessee in 2008 and still have been fairly popular there in 2010.

If Hillary was President, would Christie and McDonnell still have won the VA and NJ governorships in 2009 ?

I think that they probably both would have still won, as both states recently began electing governors that are members of the opposite party than the one in the White House during off-election years.

The big question would Christie have run against Hillary in 2012  ?

On VP Harold Ford: I could see him living in the Number One Circle Observatory residence with his hot wife, Emily and their newborn kids.

What accomplishments as VP would Ford have gotten done ?

I don't think that Christie would run against Hillary Clinton in 2012. Instead, Rick Santorum would have probably won the nomination and would have been eviscerated by Clinton on election day.

Who would be Santorum's VP for the Republicans in 2012 ?

Assuming Hillary won reelection in 2012 with 57%, I think Ford would have been considered a frontrunner for the Presidency in 2016 with the Clintons behind him.

I am thinking that Rick Santorum's running-mate would either be Newt Gingrich or Paul Ryan. I agree that Vice-President Harold Ford Jr. would be the Democratic nominee in 2016. A good running-mate choice for him would be Mark Warner.

In Hillary's 2nd term, Terry McAuliffe (D) still wins the VA governorship and Christie (R) wins reelection by massive landslide in New Jersey: winning 50 percent of Latinos and 21 percent of African Americans.
