So?  Republicans ditch Bush 41 like normal Democrats (read: non-Atlas Forum Democrats) ditch Carter.  No one wants to be associated with a one-termer from your own party. 

H.W. Bush enjoys some moderate following among Democrats because he's a moderate hero. 

Lol. Since when are non-fundamentalist conservatives moderate? Bush 41 was not a Moderate Hero, it's more of a case of Democrats regretting calling him out for signing a tax increase considering what (and who) came after.

The fact that Bush 41 is a non-fundamentalist Republican in 2014 posits him on the extremely moderate wing of his own party, and Democrats would of course love him for that.

Which everyone should admit is a terrible thing. The inmates are running the asylum.
