I could think of quite a list, but one name tops them all:

LESLEY GORE

Seriously, people?  The original 1960s "teen queen" doesn't make the cut?

Also, now would be the perfect time to add her because of all the GLBT love out there right now.

The most obvious one is Jawbreaker.

Never listened to Lesley Gore or heard of Jawbreaker.  But, I have a few ideas as the the more obvious candidates.

The Replacements
The Pixies
Captain Beefheart
Husker Du
Sonic Youth

I'm assuming that you don't go to Williamsburg much. You'd at least see people wearing their shirts quite frequently.

But yes on Replacements and Husker Du! Husker Du is probably up there with Jawbreaker in influence in my scene after all.

Rock hall has more Hip-Hop than Heavy Metal. Sad Fix that.

I'm in Williamsburg fairly often.  I don't see a lot of band t-shirts of any kind.

So then do I have a misconception that Williamsburg is the same as central southwest Minneapolis despite the reputation?

I haven't a clue what central southwest Minneapolis but I can assure you that no, it's not the same as Williamsburg.

Remember the people in my Pokémon art exhibit thread? Basically that. Also the type of place where someone else in my apartment (no not me) has one of their favorite records prominently displayed in their window and as I stated elsewhere complete strangers will tell me "nice shirt" if wearing a Jawbreaker shirt at the grocery store.

That might happen in Williamsburg.  But, it might happen in any big city in America.  Those details are so trapped in anecdote and individual experience that trying to extrapolate from them is a useless endeavor.

But, I think the overall point is that people in NYC don't wear band t-shirts.  People here are more fashionable than in Minnesota.

Deep Purple's continual rejection is probably the most absurd example.

Husker Du are one of my favourite bands of all time so I wouldn't like to see them  as part of something as embarrassing as the "Rock & Roll Hall of Fame".

Whoa.  That's impressive, bedstuy.  Except for Captain Beefheart, I have CDs from all those groups.  And I like Captain Beefheart as well.  (Just never bought their stuff.)

As for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I really don't know and I really don't care.  I've been to Cleveland.  Stayed there three weeks, in fact.  Had a great time.  Never went to the Hall of Fame, though.  I honestly don't know who's in it and I'm not sure that it makes any difference to me who is and who isn't.  But I did want to tell you that I think your list of musical acts meets with my approval.

I was just saying to myself the other day, that Del Tachi he's gotta be a huge Leslie Gore fan.  Are you really 19?

If any of you have never seen the TAMI show, watch it, it's an utterly riveting document of a time and place that may or may not have existed.  Had the Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smoky Robinson, James Brown and the Rolling Stones all on one stage and the big centerpiece of the show was....Lesley Gore.  Also had the Wrecking Crew w/Glen Campbell as the house band and Teri Garr and Toni Basil as two of the dancers.

Another big Husker Du fan here.  Hard to believe that the run from Zen Arcade to Warehouse was 2 and 1/2 years.  Five albums, two of the double albums, in 2 1/2 years. It's an excellent list of bands, but Husker Du in my opinion, was something  more than the others. Still a big fan of Bob Mould.  His last album, which was a throwback, made me very happy.

Phil Ochs

Joy Division
The Flying Burrito Brothers
My Bloody Valentine
Boston
The Pixies
Kalediscope
The Smoke
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Blue Oyster Cult
Gin Blossoms
Townes Van Zandt
Marshall Crenshaw
The Bats
Richie Havens
The Monkees (yes really... I mean if Kiss can get in...)
