All this being said, there's just something wrong with "categorizing" an entire state.

Well, yes, there are only a handful of states that are even politically throughout them. Actually, on second thought, there are pretty much only three: Oklahoma (varying degrees of populist-conservative), Massachusetts (varying degrees of slight libertarian liberalism), and Rhode Island (varying degrees of liberalism). This would just be a statewide average, I suppose. But, indeed, this is largely irrelevant as it does not reflect any area within the state, necessarily.
