He made a mockery of his own presidency by imagining that the Democratic agenda was rooted in populism. Pummeled in 2010. Probably pummeled again in 2014. He crippled himself, and the ability of the US government to get things done.

HP, though he could salvage some dignity by pulling a Bill Clinton in 2015 and 2016.
In what world is Obama a populist?

Nothing quite says freedom like disrupting and surveilling peaceful protesters! (To say nothing of spying on literally everyone with an Internet connection, retaining Bush's powers to indefinitely detain people merely accused of a crime (and codifying it into law!), ordering mafia-style hits on enemies of the United States (without trial!) in violation of the sovereignty of a nation allied to the United States!)

The best President America has had in a long time.

Yeah, he's been a great President for the wealthy, who have pulled in 95 percent of all income gains in Mr. Obama's "recovery", as well as a great President for defense contractors (largest military expenditures ever!), bankers (bailout buddies, of course), and actually a really ing awful President for workers (sorry, no EFCA and no support for you folks in Wisconsin! Did I mention I adore Rahm Emanuel?), the elderly (sorry, no Social Security for you...gotta means test Medicare too!), and everyone else (enjoy a health care system no one ing understands and that doesn't work)

I think he is a good person who has been a disappointing President in a lot of ways, particularly in the last few years. I do genuinely believe he tries to do good with what he has to work with, and despite the fact that there is a lot I wish he would've done and said differently, I cannot blame him alone for how hopelessly f**ked the American political system is. On balance I think he's an FF.

The best President America has had in a long time.

This is at least, whether I think it's kind of a bummer or not, true.

Not all violence is equal (normal)

Lenin no doubt utilized violence in both positive (dethroning the inhumane and murderous Kerensky government) and negative (ordering the execution of political rivals) ways. I will defend the former but never the latter, as my posting history clearly shows.

FF. I firmly stand by my two general election votes for him. I've had my disagreements, but I ultimately believe he has tried to the right thing. If anything, I think he was in over his head, particularly with domestic policy. I wish he had recognized the Republican opposition for what is was from the start.
