Alright, a much better question to ask. On one hand, he's arguably the best DH of all-time, and only Edgar Martinez comes close.

On the other hand, DHes usually don't make it into the Hall.

What do you guys think?

I believe strongly that only real baseball players should be inducted.

No.

Edgar Martinez was better, first off, and he's not really in position to get in right now.

Martinez and Ortiz both deserve to get in. The DH system is a crock of sh[Inks] but that's not their fault.

Apart from the whole DH issue, Ortiz just hasn't provided enough value over a long enough period of time.

What would you consider a long enough period of time?

Definitely not for the HoF

It's an enviable career, but that's different than saying Ortiz needs to be enshrined.

I think you have to factor in the PED question.  Some people are going to vote against him because he failed a drug test and there's a general association between Dominican power hitters and PEDs.

He's not in yet, but if he gets to 500 HRs, he'll be tough to stop.  The PEDs could hold him back, but his performance in post-season could get him in.
