The guy himself is totally insane (as evidenced by Kevin Smith's tale working with him), but I'll be damned if he didn't make good music. His score for Batman is still one of my favorites for any film.

Came to love his music last year. "Little Red Corvette" has been a favorite for years and to that, "When Doves Cry" and "Raspberry Beret" particularly were also added to the list.

Brilliant musician.  If I understand correctly, he played every single instrument on all the tracks of his early albums, but beautiful piano-player and wicked guitarist.  I was a bigger fan of his music in my teens than I am now, but I think he is extremely talented.
