I understand the reasoning behind most of this, even if I disagree with it, but why make using vacation days mandatory? That just baffles me, especially considering the fact that unused vacation days are rolled over to the next year.

I don't think that vacation should be forced,
Our dear friend from Kentucky's doing his thing
Where, socialistically, he tries to ban all work
Even beyond the desires of the workers.
However, I appreciate the rest
And therefore offer this amendment now.

The point of ensuring time off is to make sure that workers aren't forced to forego that time off and actually get to use it. But I'll go ahead and declare Alfie's amendment friendly. The point of this amendment is to strengthen and expand paid leave that already exists.

But you'd be forcing them to use the time -
If they forgo it, that's just fine with me,
But if they choose to take it, that's good too.
I'm fine with either choice the worker makes.

Mandatory time off?! The horror! What if workaholics want to keep working? Why should I tell them no? Would this lead to layoffs?

Does anyone object to passage of
This bill? If not, then I think we can vote.

btw, I am assuming that 500 days is per child, and that the businesses have to coordinate somehow with the employer of the other parent.  How is this supposed to work if the parents aren't cooperating, or if the father is absent?

Okay shua, Amendment split.

If you approve the split, we can proceed with a vote on your amendment minus the section he deems friendly. The friendly section will become a second shua amendment to the bill that 24 hours can be called upon. By putting the unfriendly stuff in the older of the two, we can move to a vote quicker on that.

If you reject a split, we will just move forward to a vote on the whole thing.
