Vermont. The least religious state.

Is there currently a legitimate push to legalize or decriminalize prostitution in any state? I'd expect that prostitution would sooner be legalized in portions of Nevada which still prohibit it (e.g. Vegas) before happens in another state.

There are too many interests against legalizing prostitution for it to happen any time soon.

Okay, I'll bite. Other than the SoCon vote (which in this case would extend easily into most of the soccer mom demographic), what interests do you speak of?

Your obsession with this issue is disturbing, to say the least.

I'd expect a state with an interest in adult-oriented tourism would do it next, so I voted Louisiana, home of the House of the Rising Sun.

Besides SoCons, I would say there's a feminist stance against it, though there are pro-prostitution feminists. Your general NIMBYs, who are not necessarily SoCons, may object for a variety of concerns, whether it be land value, sex tourism, setting examples for our kids, and whatnot. Some bleeding hearts might find it exploitative of the poor. Business interests in Nevada could try to fight it outside the state as a deterrent for Nevada tourism. Police unions would probably fight it.

If any other state legalizes prostitution, it'd most likely be more along the lines of high end escort services (which are not only already de facto legal but also regulated in many major cities) rather than brothels.

As for which state would be most likely to do this, eh, Colorado.

Some good points, but in all fairness, most of those would also apply to those opposing legalizing marijuana as well.

Prostitution (but not brothels) was legal in Rhode Island until 2009.

Some small libertarian leaning state.

Could see Montana/Alaska do it. Maybe New Hampshire

Certainly no state that voted dem or is in the south

I don't think this is compatible with the image either state is interested in having in terms of tourism and commerce.

My guess is Washington State but I don't see this anywhere in the near future.

I could see left-leaning libertarian states like Colorado try it, and the right would pounce even more on that state. But its more likely in states that have non-religious clear democratic majorities. Vermont? Oregon? New Hampshire?

But all in all its unlikely, at least for a good while.

I say WA. We used to have animal brothels, until someone died from it.

In my recent visit to Nye County, the brothels were not doing well - at all. I think the ease of securing sex via the internet is really hurting their business, is my surmise.

Incidentally, when I just went to Google "Nye County", "nye lubicrants" showed up higher in the autocomplete suggestion list than "nye county" when I typed in "Nye".

Nosey aren't you?  I "came" to that by way of observing the empty or near empty parking lots appending them. None of them alas seemed to cater to gays; if one did, Dan and I would have check it out immediately, leaving my older brother in the car planning our next cross country hike. Smiley
