And no, I don't mean socially liberal Democrats who happen to reside in Southern states.  Obviously they grow smaller in number each day, and I've only seen one or two posters out there who might fit the profile, but does anyone out there still consider themselves to be an old school Southern Dem (culturally moderate/conservative, socially moderate/conservative, fiscally populist)?  Have there been any on Atlas in the past few years who are now gone?

NOTES: Let's not take into consideration this group's history with segregation, it's 2014.  Also, I wasn't sure where to put this, so feel free to move it!

Blacks vote strongly D in the South. However conservative they may be on some social issues, they are usually liberal on economics.

We have a guy named MilesC56 who's a loyal Democrat while being more socially conservative than he is economically left-wing.

I like to consider myself a Southern Democrat.

Weren't the Dixiecrats pretty moderate on economics?

Definitely much more liberal than current Southern Republicans.  People like George Wallace were actually quite liberal economically.

Yeah, which is why "far-right" and "ultra-Conservative" shouldn't be used to describe him.

Major exception to that Dixiecrat rule: Harry Byrd.

On the OP: Miles.

Some were extreme right-wing, like Larry McDonald. Others were more left-wing than any Senator today, like Huey Long.

I'm sort of like a southern Democrat although I'm not from the South and not a Democrat (though I vote Democratic in most local races). I'm liberal on economic issues and conservative on social issues.

Miles is the obvious example. I suppose Bushie fits too, although Bushie's ideology is probably just a function of his social circle rather than deeply ingrained views. Ben isn't a southern Democrat at all by the usual understanding; he's more like a hawkish version of Mr. X.

In general, the Atlas forum is lacking in the upper-right quadrant of the PM. Communitarian traditionalism just isn't popular amongst internet youngs. Maybe someday it will be, but those aren't the times we live in. The times we live in are a push far to the other direction.

I'd still count myself in this group.
