Dale. He was more interesting of a character to follow, and was often times more insightful when it came to people losing their humanity. I think because Dale was often times at odds with a large part of the group, his interactions were better than all of Hershel's, since everyone just kind of agrees with him.

They're both awful and basically the same character.  Dale started out somewhat interesting I suppose, but he just got worse and worse.
