http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/04/09/carson-for-president-back-report-4-million-raised-campaign-apparatus-into-place/

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/11/us/politics/group-says-it-has-raised-over-1-7-million-for-hillary-clinton.html?_r=0

A Super PAC, RunBenRun.org has raised $4 Million dollars toward a Ben Carson Presidential campaign, and collected 200,000 signatures for a petition to get him to enter the race.

By comparison, the Ready for Hillary PAC, raised just $1.7 Million Dollars in the last quarter.

Does this make Carson (Should he run of course) a legitimate contender for the Republican nomination?

What will they do with the money if he doesn't run?  Find another Ben?

It will make for a great episode of "Win Ben Stein's Money."

Yes, some black guy who has never held any political office his entire life is a contender.

Ben Carson should be Surgeon General in a Republican administration, he's not interested in being President.

Did you really have to mention that he's black?

Would he be getting this much attention from conservatives as someone who should run for President if he wasn't? It's Herman Cain all over again.

To be fair I can't see any person with no record of any public office/high military command becoming President.

When was the last time such a thing occured? Never.

No political experience what so ever, has never ran for political office either hasn't even run anything like an like an office or business or organization he would be a disaster as a candidate and a politician. Whoever is pushing this is not thinking this through at all.

Carson is an Evangelical Christian with a following. The Evangelical Right has no real candidate in the fray right now.  If Huckabee doesn't enter the fray, then Carson carries the banner for those folks.

I suspect that Carson's candidacy is more for electing delegates and influencing the outcome of the ongoing GOP Civil War.  The GOP needs to expand the map to take it to the next level, but are stalemated because of what their candidates need to do to win the GOP Presidential nomination.  Many GOP regulars would love to have the religious conservatives go away, but (A) they have nowhere else to go, and (B) the GOP needs them more then they want to admit.  Carson's "candidacy" is there to keep religious conservatives in the game, and to keep the GOP establishment in recognizing that they need the Evangelicals as part of their base.

When I was at the Hotel Monaco in Alexandria two weekends ago, there was a car in the parking garage that had three "Ben Carson 4 President 2016" stickers on it. Never did figure out whose car it was.

Carson has spoken very positively of Rand Paul IIRC, I think he might endorse him.

There is also the possibility that some people like him and think he should be president.

I don't know about that. Herman Cain actually had some fairly impressive non-political qualifications that looked good on paper and he was still dumb as a post.

Boy who does that remind me of?

Ben Carson is like the love child of Herman Cain and Sarah Palin.

John Bolton has two different Super PACs, and they collectively raised a total of $1.8 million in the first quarter of 2014:

Ready for Hillary needs to work on its readiness.

Also, Carson has another PAC devoted to Obamacare repeal/replace, which has raised $1.2 million.  That's separate from the money raised by runbenrun.org:

WHO the hell is giving money for a John Bolton presidential bid? Shocked

That's like heavily investing in a proposed reboot of Ask Jeeves.

Technically, they're giving money to his PAC, which notionally exists for the purpose of distributing $ to hawkish GOP candidates in the midterms.  But in reality, a good deal of the infrastructure that he's building up for this will be rolled over into his presumed presidential campaign.

I'm under no illusion he'd make a great president, but you don't need to make up quotes for him to say things he never said.
