For example I noticed Paul Kemp hadn't posted in awhile, so I checked his last post and it's this:

I think some of the reactions in this thread pretty much reinforce my belief that I'm done here.

Now I have little doubt he'll be back (not the first time he left after all) but that's not the point. The thread in question is actually pretty mundane and there's nothing in it that'd even be delugeable. I honestly can't figure out what in it was so horrible he decided to leave.

And then you often have Gully and oakvale proclaiming "OMG worst thread EVER!" (hell Gully did it right after that) to threads that are at worst fairly boring and somewhat hackish. The really bad threads (any thread where J. J. discusses polling or tries to play internet detective on a current event, Snowstalker derailing talks of current events with idiotic teenage Marxist blather, the Sandra Fluke threads, and just about everything in the 2016 forum for examples) get hordes of people complaining about it and deluging it but not quite such a severe reaction against. That awful thread in 2008 about that McCain volunteer who fabricated an assault on her (which before I called the single worst thread of the 2008 season) is a great example. I just wonder why when things like that happen the real outrage tends to get focused on things as trival as the 500th Hillary in 2016 thread or a handful of people not liking that Nate Silver isn't exclusively focusing on politics anymore.

Well, BRTD, considering you're an expert in outrage over trivial matters Tongue

Example please.

I mostly tend to ignore the type of threads in question here and have probably a single digit number of posts in the 2016 forum.

Has new 538 remained as bad as it was during its first couple of weeks? I've seen them called out for their sloppy use of data a few times since then, but I haven't bothered checking back.

I like it but it's quite far from Nate Silver in his prime.

Ah but be fair BRTD, it was a truly terrible thread.

If my "truly terrible" you mean "extremely mundane and forgettable" yes. Remember that I had forgotten about it until I looked it up again and can't see anything in it that would qualify as even bad enough to note in the Deluge or anything.

I'm not sure what exactly happened in that thread, no...

Nothing was deleted. What you see there is exactly as it was. So yeah can someone explain to me what is "truly terrible" about that thread? The only real problem I have with it is that it's actually pretty boring.

I really just want someone to explain what they found so terrible about that thread instead of just repeating "but it was such an awful thread!" with no elaboration.

Could Gully or Kemp explain their bizarre reactions to that thread?

Kemp isn't posting anymore and Gully never explains his pretentious self. So not going to happen.

The clarification makes a bit more sense but honestly the only guy in it who really was acting that way is the guy who thinks marijuana is some type of horrific drug and plague amongst the populace, and is usually taken about as seriously as someone of that nature should be and usually is. Simply being disappointed that Silver's primary focus isn't going to be politics anymore isn't accusing him of "selling out" and is an expected reaction on a political forum. I'm sure baseball fans who knew about him before his political stuff who couldn't care less about politics had the same reaction once that became the main thing he wrote about.

As for pbrower I have him completely tuned out. I don't have him on ignore, but he might as well be, I have a natural reaction to just completely skip his posts and forget he even posted. So I basically forgot he posted in that thread 30 seconds after reading it.
