I wonder what it must have been like to be a Republican legislator in the early 20th century South. I'm imagining 114 House Democrats going into a caucus meeting and leaving the 3 Republicans awkwardly sitting by themselves in the chamber.

Didn't New York used to be somewhat similar? Republicans had fairly large majorities in the state Senate while Democrats had fairly large majorities in the Assembly.

IIRC, the 1920s were a time when many legislatures in the country saw lopsided (temporary) Republican majorities. I think the New Jersey legislature got shaved down to 2 or 3 Democrats total around the same time this happened in OK.
