Louisiana bill would name Bible as official state book

And this is Louisiana, meaning plenty of useless Democrats went and voted for it in committee.

There's no reason a state should have a state book to begin with.

If the Bible had been written in Louisiana, that would be one thing...

BushOklahoma has only ever read the Bible, as I recall.  Not a single other book, by choice at least.  Not that he's relevant to Louisiana of course, but he is fairly typical of Real Americans like these legislators and the people who vote for them.

Amen!  We have a proliferation of useless state symbols, especially here in South Carolina.

From the animal kingdom alone we have besides the state animal, the white-tailed deer, a state amphibian, a state bird, a state game bird, a state duck, a state butterfly, a state dog, a state fish, a state heritage horse, a state heritage work animal, a state insect, a state marine mammal, a state migratory marine mammal, a state reptile, and a state spider!

Somehow we are one of the few states without an official state fossil (unless one counts Strom Thurmond).

I'm pretty sure it's a violation of the Commandment about idolatry. Worshipping a book, instead of God and Jesus.

What makes it a "heritage horse"?  The pages I found don't really elaborate on that too much.

And let's also keep in mind that most people who say they've "read the Bible" haven't actually read all of it, and even fewer actually absorbed its contents to the extent that they know what it says.

Well, probably the most famous book actually written in Louisiana is Confederacy of Dunces.  That would make for a fun debate.

Yet, Quebec still use Napoleonic Code and doesn't love the Bible at all.

At this point, that'll probably never change.  It's good for the lawyers in the state, because it keeps out-of-staters from being able to easily practice law in Louisiana.

Stop people!  This is plenty accurate for Louisiana!  It'd be like if we made this OUR state book...

I see that my efforts to nominate the real state book of Louisiana have been beaten to the punch.

Y'all should read this.  I should reread it, it's that good.

...so basically Update would be a remake of it set in Oklahoma instead. Except it really happens. Guess life imitates art after all.

Oh and the character is even described as obese on Amazon and clearly has a mustache per all cover art. Amazing.

Having a state anything seems like somewhat of a waste of time, but this is seriously beyond crazy. But really, what does this do to benefit anybody other than the people who voted for it in their re-election campaigns?

Well, I mean, the Court could overturn Lawrence v. Texas, right, at which point, it's very important that states have laws like these on the books!

But seriously, this stuff is settled law.  It's amazing that cops are actually enforcing this stuff.  Get the dumb laws off the books and worry about things that actually matter.  This should've been able to pass with a voice vote; what a shame.
