I know we have a lot of fans of the show here, which is understandable because it's the best show on television. And yesterday night the first half of the final season started!

Looks like Pete has finally found peace in California. Don, not so much. I wonder how long Megan will last this season?

Did anything really happen? I'm not convinced it did. WTF is Roger doing though? And has his daughter joined the Manson family or something?

Ken's lack of depth perception is the funniest thing.

Was it ever explained why Ken had the eye patch again?

Not much happened but in a good way. The episode was like a mood board.

It seems like Joan is really taking on a full slate of accounts.

Pilot actually left me interested in Ted's story for the season. Living in warm sunny LA for months and not getting a tan.

I disagreed with the reviews saying last Sunday's episode was dull. I liked it a lot.

I was a little surprised by how Joan reacted to Don coming back.

Bobby is growing up!

I loved tonight's episode. The ending was perfect. Good enough to just end the series right there, especially when you consider WHY Bert's character exists.

I thought it was a great episode but that song and dance scene was a terrible way to end this half of the season.

On IMDB they were like "It's an homage to Robert Morse's Broadway career". That does nothing to explain why Don is hallucinating. That's the best they could come up with? Morse was such a minor character, even if he was in every season. He didn't have any accounts or personal life shown.

I am very disappointed in Joan, she used to be one of my favorites and now she's as bad as Harry Hamlin. I watched the entire season and I still don't know Hamlin's name on the show.

Ted Chaw looks like James Spader's identical twin. Peggy is doing fantastic though.

Yeah, you really wouldn't want to end up like him.

I actually thought it was quite impressive that Weiner could dovetail the needs of the show with Morse's most famous career moment so tightly.  I didn't know until after the fact that that was Morse's initial claim to fame.

Yeah, I'm with King here. That episode was fantastic. It's ridiculous that we're not getting any more this year.

What makes the last scene work is Jon Hamm's terrific acting. So much emotion in those two or three final minutes. King's right that it would have been a fine final scene for the entire series.

Also I love how the show continues to f[inks] with Harry at every opportunity.

Also the bit with Sally was great. She's listening to Don for once. Though I half-thought Betty would have a go at Mr. No-Shirt. Her comment about an old, bad boyfriend was apt. She seems to still want him, but in that mode, not a husband, and not the docile political wife Henry seems to want.

Although Kiernan Shipka is growing up rapidly this season. It's a bit awkward, even.

Also the bit with Meredith was adorable. A brief moment of lucidity for her, perhaps. But was it a long-standing thing- meaning old drunkard Don still "has it", or was it attraction to his weakness? I feel this is rather important.

I wonder if Bert's death- around the time of the moon landing- could be tied to his posthumous description of Ms. Blankenship.

Also, does anyone here read Mad Style? They make the point, in their most recent post, that Peggy's shirt during the BurgerChef pitch is similar to Julio's earlier.

This Dennis Potter fan approves (obviously). Excellently done and dramatically perfect, as well as being a lovely homage to Morse's career.

That does nothing to explain why Don is hallucinating.

It doesn't need explaining. We have seen Don having visions since the first season.

That scene isn't supposed to be Don literally hallucinating. He's not going crazy or whatever. It's just a way of visualizing for the viewer his thoughts and feelings.
