Stevens Square is the densest neighborhood in Minneapolis, and thus also in the entire state of Minnesota. It's actually a combination of two distinct areas, the actual place called Stevens Square, and a smaller nearby area called Loring Heights (thus the entry signs say Stevens Square/Loring Heights.) The actual area of Stevens Square is even denser as Loring Heights is a not very dense neighborhood of mostly houses.
It's known for its thriving arts community. A prominent mural in the neighborhood with a poem written about it nearby:
The poem:
Sitting right south of downtown Minneapolis, it's quite easy to get an apartment with this type of view:
And being known for its historic buildings this is what it'll look like on the outside:
The whole neighborhood is centered around a park, which is known for its art fair in the summer:
The same organization also hosts outdoor movie showings starting at sundown during the summer, and usually of a more independent or adult slant too than the family movies most places do. AKA they actually show some R-rated movies.
And because of the density you can literally walk the entire neighborhood and see it all in less than a half hour. I did this all the time last summer (partially because of Ingress but I did it even before that), and because of its proximity you can even walk straight to the heart of downtown Minneapolis. Nicollet Avenue runs through it (usually considered the border between Stevens Square and Loring Heights) and once it leaves the neighborhood Nicollet Avenue becomes forbidden to vehicles except for buses and taxis, making it a mostly walking route through a large business and entertainment district.
...and it voted 86.03% for Obama (8.21% for Romney) and over 81% against banning gay marriage.
Freedom Neighborhood. I don't live there, I'm a couple blocks south, but still close enough to appreciate how much of a wonderful place it is. I honestly just can't comprehend how on earth someone would prefer to live in a sprawly exurb than somewhere like this. Just can't comprehend it.
