He's not going to win, but I could see him running.

First, he's in his 60s and there isn't an immediate opening for the big statewide offices. And if there was, Gavin Newsom likely has better resources.

A presidential bid could raise his profile for later paydays. It would also make him a prominent spokesman for Hispanic Democrats, a welcome surrogate for the party in case Republicans nominate a Hispanic candidate for national office, or the Bush with the Mexican wife.

LOL an unexperienced token for the Hispanic vote, just like all the talk about Julian Castro.




On paper, he has an adequate resume.

He was the leader of a state legislature in the most populous state in the country.

And he spent eight years as mayor of a city with most residents than Connecticut.
