It's amusing when a French Canadian spells it "center" considering the way it's spelled in French is also the commonwealth spelling. Same with defence/defense.

Not exactly.  He confirmed that he's from Britain, and he's right.  Whether or not he's "British" is something we can't know without seeing his papers.  But we don know he is from Britain.
