The statement was in response to Candy Crowley asking, "Do you think your Republican colleagues are racist?"

Was it? She was asking about his Republican colleagues, then he said that and segued into talking about the Republican base.

At best, he did not answer the question that was asked. At worst, it was a very backhanded way to imply there are people in Congress who think non-whites are inferior to whites and/or do not deserve to have the same rights.

How would you react if Greta Van Susteren asked Louie Gohmert if he thought the Democrats in Congress were socialists and he responded, "Not all of them are,"?

Yes (sane).  There may be some racist Republicans, but there are also racist Democrats and Independents.

He's correct. Not all Republicans are racists, but all racists are Republicans.

Yes (D), not every Republican is a racist, regardless of their Immigration positions, and while a section of the Republican base is comprised of Racists, they make up a small minority, I mean, the only places I can envision John Malcom Paterson types getting elected are Mississippi and Alabama, and even then, you aren't going to find mainstream Republicans screaming "NEGROS WILL DIE, WHITE POWER" from Capitol Hill.

Without allegations of racism and sexism, Democrats have nothing. Rep. Israel is a bigot by necessity, and another Democrat yankee from an all-white liberal paradise, who thinks integration is segregated neighborhoods within a major city. Northeastern Democrats have no understanding of what it means to live in a racially diverse state where minorities wield electoral power. They are not victims, they are equals. Ideological competition and criticism is not harmful or bigoted between cultures.

I suppose his remarks are only noteworthy, now that he has been put in the 3rd district, which isn't as solidly Democratic as the 2nd District.

This is...blatantly untrue.

You don't have to be an avowed white nationalist to be racist.

Pete Sessions comes to mind immediately. As does, potentially, Chris McDaniel. Joe Wilson, Doug Lamborn - there certainly are people in Congress who are at least a little racist.

Yes. The term racism is inflationary used, misused and above all abused, that it wears and loses its real meaning.
