Or, to the older Forumites who already have some little crumb grabbers, how many do you already have or intend to have when you're through increasing and multiplying your brood?

Probably none. Children are loud, dirty, and awful. I don't really feel like trading my life in for taking care of them.
I felt the SAME way Smiley

I have one. I do not want another until she is much older. Since we're such young parents, we could easily have another child when she is 18. (My partner would be 38).

I think it's much preferable to space them out like that Smiley  So to answer the question, maybe 2?

Three sounds like a nice number, although two would be more realistic.

I'm 22. Wanting children would make an insane person.

I consider it immoral to breed above the replacement rate, so two. If I want any more than that, I'll adopt.

Zero. I never wanted children and that has not changed. I'd be surprised if it does change.

I'm not ready to permanently say goodbye to peace and quiet. Toddlers, babies, little kids are dreadful, and to take care of one isn't something I want to do, although at least when they get older you can have a conversation with them, and under the right circumstances that might be worth it (a preppy daughter would be nice to raise), but I have no desire to take the chance.

You sound a bit less firm there than you did when we last spoke. Tongue I don't get such thinking- we were all such children once, after all.

I wouldn't want to live with the child version of myself if that's what you're suggesting.

One level of my personality wants two or three while another doesn't want any. Voted two.

I think it's much preferable to space them out like that Smiley

I'm not trying to gainsay you since you're the one who's actually a parent already but I'm curious to hear your logic on this since it goes against a lot of the conventional wisdom that I've heard on the subject.

None, zip, zero, zilch. Hell no. My parents still haven't figured out why, but it's for a myriad of reasons. One, I hate kids, so for their sake and mine, I would never being one into my life. Two, I have the best and most reliable form of birth control that has never failed even once. Not abstinence, as it's widely believed that abstinence failed in 1 B.C., but the fact that I'm gay.

That's the ultimate family planning right there, as you have to make a very conscious decision to bring a child into your life, especially for us gay men, as lesbians obviously have it easier in terms of having a child. For us men, we have to either find a child that's available to adopt, which isn't easy, or find a woman who's willing to carry your child for 9 months and then hand it over to you and possibly never see the child again, which can be even harder.

As for the main reason I don't want kids, I think it goes back to the 5-year age gap between myself and my brother. I was old enough to remember what it's like to change a dirty diaper, and all the sleepless nights because my brother screamed almost literally nonstop from the moment he was born until he was about 18 months old, as he had some gastrointestinal issues as an infant. But if I'm ever going to run for office, I'm going to have to learn to hold a baby at some point.

My mom figured out that I'm gay and thankfully she knows better than to try to ask me about that, but my dad is 100% clueless. He still thinks that "You and your wife will change your minds someday and have a child."

At most two, preferably one.

I've been toying around naming my son after Tom Brady.
