As in the entire country, or for a state?

I did the latter and looked at Census data where available. I estimate the MHI of this one to be around $95k.

Obama 52.6%, McCain 46.5%

Rep 53.8%, Dem 46.2%

VAP: White 68%, Black 13%, Latino 10%, Asian 8%

This should be one of the most wealthy ones in the country, $120K+. It went 56-43 Obama and is 61% white, 17% Asian, 12% Hispanic, 6% Black.  For those of who want a reference, this is a great site: http://www.city-data.com/

MHI is probably around $100K to $125K.

64.1% Obama, 34.4% McCain
70.2% White, 15.8% Asian, 7.1% Hispanic, 2.4% Black

I would guess that something in the SF Bay area would be the highest.

Depends what you are using.  Is it median household income?  Per Capita income, etc?

You could probably carve something out of Manhattan.

There aren't as many high income census tracts as one needs to make a district. CT is probably better, but not as good as SF.

I am sure the wealthiest bits of Frelinghuysen's, Lance's, and Garret's district in NJ - basically the non-rural parts - would be in the running and could probably be contiguous.

Adam Griffin: here is my proposal for the wealthiest possible GA district. I estimate the median household income to be at least $110k, possibly above $120k.

The basic pattern you see when looking at the local level is that median income increases the closer you get to GA 400, except that it plummets once you get within a few miles of it. Thus you get this district, starting in the Gwinnett/Forsyth/Cherokee exurbs then filling in the McMansion suburbia on both sides of 400 (which snakes down through the district without ever really entering it itself), branches over to get those rich East Cobb neighborhoods, takes in most of Buckhead then shoots a tendril down to those rich parts of Druid Hills and Decatur.
