I have no words, like, at all, I mean, wow. Well, any sympathy I had for her because of her sister may have just gone down the drain.

I'm shocked that backroom strategy sessions aren't G-rated.

It goes beyond that - to be so petty she hasn't done a NM GOP fundraiser since Dec 2012, to call her fellow GOP pol a "retard" just for the way he talks, to be so ignorant, and proud of that ignorance on the issues... it's sad.

Republican Governors in Democratic states are not nice people.

Actually, her campaign manager was quoting someone else who said that the guy sounded like a retard. She didn't say anything of the sort. Not to split hairs or anything.

So much for a spot on the 2016 GOP ticket. Hopefully it also affects her reelection prospects although I doubt it reaches quite that far.

So, a hit piece from Mother Jones a year before anyone even announces disqualifies her? Pretty sure not. She may not be on the ticket, but it won't be because of anything in this article.

Perhaps True, after all the McCain team did pick Palin without fully vetting her possible negatives. Anything is possible.

I have a severely autistic brother who is in a group home, and I use the word "retard" all the time. Why? Because I’m not oversensitive and I am not actually calling my brother it. What I really learned is that most of our under one thousand post red avatar newbies are childish, easily offended, and extremely ignorant.

Martinez is not doomed because Mother Jones, the grand beacon of American Journalism, did a hit piece on her.

Wow, liberal magazine expects us to be shocked politician is politician. It's also a bit sexist... how dare a conservative woman be aggressive and pushy, etc! Of course, Hillary is a "strong" woman all the same.

New Mexico's most famous Governor, Lew Wallace, once said of his time in office here: "Every calculation based on experience elsewhere fails in New Mexico."

I think that's important to remember when talking about the corruption of a NM Governor.  It's a deep rooted tradition of cronyism here. The kind that won't even respond to large sums of money.

Even Libertarian hero Gary Johnson had plenty of incidents where he allowed people in his cabinet to audit and screw political opponents one way or another, but nobody thought to make a Bridgegate scandal out of it because it's New Mexico.

A lot of times people will see a politician with a profile that they like and want that person to be a national level figure.  It only works out when that person has the skills to pay the bills.

Look at Sarah Palin, Wes Clark, Fred Thompson, Bill Richardson, etc, their two sentence profile wrote a check that the reality of that person couldn't cash.  The same is true for Martinez it seems to me.  Republicans want her to be something for diversity and narrative purposes.  But, she's nothing special.  When y'all are looking ahead to 2016, remember, two line biographies don't win elections, candidates do.

This is actually ridiculous. As in terrible journalism. She's "weak on policy" because she didn't know the workings of some nonsense bureaucratic commission. She's "petty" because she minds her opponents. "Vindictive" because she uses less-than family friendly-language. Had this been about a Democrat they'd have complained about "pearl-clutching".

She didn't say that - one of her strategists did. Not that it makes it better, but at least what I've read so far, most of the bad statements have came from staffers. This happens with every campaign - she just has to do some damage control on it.

Is saying "retard" seriously considered some kind of horrible faux pas now? I get that you wouldn't use in polite company, but...

Considering these tapes were "leaked" by people who hacked into her email account and are as a result under federal investigation, I'd say the "damage control" is done by itself. But of course you wonder whether if that'd make it into the Times or the New Yorker.

I definitely love the moderates republicans: Mitt Romney, Chris Christie, Susana Martinez,...

But seriously, it won't hurt her.

The point is, she's not the perfect candidate she's been made out to be. This is enough to keep her off of a ticket, no presidential candidate wants to deal with someone so angry, nasty and petty.

Her and Christie should get a reality, they both have rotten personalities. People said Christie's personality was good for his state, then Bridgegate came out and everyone pretends now that they never liked him.
