Geez. Will the Republicans ever win another statewide race in DE again? Amazing.  Of course, when the state party has a debacle like they did in the 2010 Senate race, who knows?

Good for him. Wind mind to see Biden's son winning a Senate seat.

Congrats, next Governor of Delaware!

It's truly dark times to be a Republican in Delaware.

Coons doesn't even have an opponent for this year yet, and the most talked about possibility is Christine O'Donnell. It's abysmal times for the DE-GOP.

That's an early announcement. It's a smart move to go for an office Attorney Generals often get elected to, and that his dad has never held.

It would, though, be interesting to see him get elected to the Senate when Carper retires.

Sure.

But it would be different if it's 2024 and Biden's a Governor finishing his second term presumably eight years after his father left elected office.

And the Democrats extend their chokehold on the Delaware governor's office to 28 (and probably 32) years.

I think what we can all agree on is that we would like SOMEBODY to replace Carper.

Good for Beau Biden on seeking the Delaware Governor's Mansion in 2016.

Military experience to boot helps.

This is the least surprising news since Anderson Cooper came out.

Great to hear! If Biden's running nationally for President at this time, it will help Beau out significantly just like a Hillary run could help Chelsea in a potential 2016 run. The DE GOP is a joke and they haven't held the mansion since 1992, but part of that can be attributed thanks to Mike Castle who boosted Carper and Carper & Minner were overall very popular, bipartisan and moderate Governors while Markell himself was elected in top notch years for Dems (and elected alongside J. Biden and Carper in those years). Luckily Castle can't run again either, but I just hope the nominee is someone who will make sure Biden wins the Governorship. I'm fully behind Beau and so will Markell given their strong work together after Sandy Hook and efforts to reduce crime and prosecute child sex offenders.

This unfortunately means to that Coons is coasting to a 2nd term and is likely to run again in 2020, but this sets up Biden great to possibly succeed Carper in the Senate.

Good move... And for those who wanted him to primary Coons or Carper, where is your evidence that Beau Biden (or Joe for that matter) isn't a corpratist?

None, but I guess Biden projects an aura of populism, so I hope his son will too. I don't think Beau Biden is any worse than Coons or Carper, at least.

I don't think Mike Castle would win anymore, even if he ran.  There's too much damage from that humiliating debacle of the '10 primary defeat and he's old.  That's what finally did Bill Roth in too.

The DE GOP is deader than dead.  They have NOBODY.
