Coons has some rightwing votes, likes rejecting the last justice nominee.

Seriously, both are bad and should be replaced. The DE Republican Party is dead, no need to support corporatist democrats anymore.

I imagine the incredibly large number of large companies incorporated in Delaware has a lot to do with it.

Does anyone else feel there's an off chance that he will run for president in 2020 or 2024?  He's pretty young and I don't feel like he'll want to retire after the governorship.

I feel like he doesn't want to completely follow his fathers footsteps, but it's entirely possible.

Talking about the Gov of DE seems a lot like Cook County, IL and the office of board president. Cook is about half the land area of DE, but has five times the population. It's the only county in IL granted home rule status so the county board and president have a lot of authority over taxes and regulation. And like the GOP in DE the GOP has no chance of gaining the Cook presidency.

What?  Coons wasn't even in the Senate for Kagan's confirmation.

Department of Justice, not SCOTUS. I think he's talking about that Civil Rights nominee a month back.

Maybe windjammer means the Department of Justice guy who was rejected because of his defense of a cop-killer?

There are a lot of retired Pennsylvania police officers in Delaware. Voting against  Adegbile isn't likely to hurt Coons.

I'd prefer Carper to be replaced, though both of them being knocked out wouldn't be so bad, their vote against the Sexual Assault bill was inexcusable, Armed Forces Committee or no.

If Beau plagiarizes a speech from Ed Milliband, then he'll follow in his father's footsteps.

Republicans last won the DE governorship in 1988.

It was a reference to Coons past, in which he described himself as a "bearded Marxist" or something like that. It fired up the Tea Party for like five minutes.

And yet even small state governors are imputed to be potential presidential material, unlike the heads of much more populated large cities and counties. How big is Chicago, NYC, LA, compared to AR, AK or MT? And yet Clinton, Schweitzer and Palin could all be considered presidential candidates (or at least legitimate Veep picks), unlike the mayors of municipalities with vastly larger (and usuallly much more diverse) populations and budgets.

Guliani was of course an exception, but only after 9/11 "nationalized" his standing beyond being a good executive to foriegn affairs/terrorism issues.

Giuliani's tenure as NYC mayor was very successful.  Yes, the economy was good for better half of the 90s, but he really cleaned some things up.

Big question is whether Carper retires from the US Senate in 2018, so that Markell can run for his Senate seat.
