Actually, with this amendment, if no one chooses to defend Naso, then the Mideast doesn't have a chief Judicial officer to ask to defend him.

So, Nym90 will automatically be appointed his defender.  That would be highly amusing.

Of course, Naso would probably refuse counsel in the end.

For my next bit of amending, I would like to propose that we remove Clause 3 and 5 from Section 1 of this Bill, as they relate with Civil Law (which will be dealt with in another bill) and not with Criminal Law.

iii. Posting untrue, derogatory statements about another Atlas Forum member with the intent of causing offense or defaming their character.
v. Posting threads with the sole intention of provoking an aggressive reaction from forum members.

With regards to the Amendment, the amendment states that the senior Senator of the District is the third person in line for being legal counsel.  However, Mike Naso is in fact the Senior Senator.  He would be appointed as his own legal counsel!

I suggest a provision adding the Junior Senator to be fourth in line.

This is a good point.

Ok, here are my last three changes.  I suggest we vote on them all at the same time, though separately.

#1:

My addition to Section 6, Clause 1 is in bold (from John Ford's suggestion):

Section 6:  Rights of the Defendant:

i.  The Defendant shall not be denied the access to adequate legal counsel in the form of an upstanding, active citizen of Atlasia.  The defendant also has the right to waive their right to legal counsel.

If the defendant requests legal counsel, but is unable to secure his own adequate legal counsel according to the stipulations above, the presiding Justice shall request the chief judicial officer of the Region which said Defendant resides in, to serve as legal counsel to represent the defense.  The chief judicial officer of the Region shall have the right to refuse such a request.

If there is no chief judicial officer of said Region or if the chief judicial officer refuses this request, the Senior Senator of the Region shall be appointed as chief legal counsel, or if there is no Regional senator, the Senior Senator of the District in which Defendant resides in shall be appointed as chief legal counsel.

If the Senior Senator of the Region or District, as stated above, and the Defendant are the same person, then the Junior Senator of the Region shall be appointed as chief legal counselor, or if there is no Regional senator, the Junior Senator of the District in which Defendant resides in shall be appointed as chief legal counsel.

For this clause, active citizen is defined as someone who voted in the last Presidential election and upstanding citizen is defined as someone who is presently, or who has previously held elected office in Atlasia.

#2:

Addition to Section 1, Clause 4 (in bold):

iv. Posting pictures, other media, or links to the same of a pornographic nature on the Atlas Fantasy Elections and Government Boards.

#3:

Addition to Section 1, Clause 7 (in bold):

vii. Posting threads on the Atlas Fantasy Elections and Government Boards of a sexual nature that contribute nothing to political or philosophical discussion.

That's all.  Gabu, please open the voting, if you will.

Aye, nay, nay

I have talked with Peter about whether this bill should be applicable on all the boards as long as the person is a registered voter in Atlasia. He said that a bill like this would be almost useless if it was confined to just two boards on the forum. He wanted to use these laws to regulate the actions of registered voters throughout the forum. Applying these Laws onto all registered voters in all areas of the forum would help the Moderators and Dave Leip himself find what goes against these laws and to lock, delete, or close topics and/or posts that are in violation of these rules.
