Inspired by a similar thread in the Senate thread...

Who are people who could make a legitimate play at the Gubernatorial mansions in 2016, 2018 and maybe even 2020 (depending on who does or doesn't get re-elected?)

For 2016 Amanda Padson (R-WV, Delegate) comes to mind. If some Some Dude doesn't run against Hassan, the first one that comes to mind who could win is Chris Sununu. And of course, Beau Biden is all but guaranteed Dover. Matheson has his eye on the governor's seat if Herbert doesn't run though, and I see him running then. Missouri is the one race to watch though - Peter Kinder vs. Kander/Koster will be down-to-the-wire.

Herring and Northam will probably make a play at the governor's mansion in Virginia in 2017, and Guadagno is next in line for New Jersey Republicans.

As for 2018, if Mike Madigan retires and Rauner wins, Lisa will definitely run for Governor. I could see Hill or Gardner (if he barely loses to Udall) go in Colorado, and I could name about ten Florida Republicans I see run for Governor if Crist wins. Ben Lujan and Ross Miller could also run in New Mexico and Nevada.

If Jim Matheson doesn't run for Governor in 2016, then Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams probably will in 2020. McAdams is basically the idealized concept of a Boy Scout made flesh. He's tremendously nice, wonky charismatic, a Mormon (always a plus in Utah), he's the highly visible mayor of the state's largest county, won by almost ten points in swing-state Salt Lake County, has a great sense of humor, and has the state's best campaign manager (who will also be a state legislator by November of this year).

McAdams or Matheson would be the only Utah Dems who could win a gubernatorial election. Both could take on most opponents, though not Governor Herbert (who will probably retire in 2016).

Cruz will NEVER run for the governorship.

He wants to be President in 2016.

yes that be wht cruz want, he defeat clinton/biden in ladnside, win vermont, mane and cali due to record of librty in anerica, white house renamed boston house, relocted to houston

Anyway, to be serious, Beau Biden is already a lock in 2016, and Gavin Newsom seems dead set on running in 2018, but if he doesn't Kamala Harris could jump in.

It took me until your third post to realize it was satire, and then I started laughing uncontrollably. Spot on, and bravo good sir.

Florida Republicans are likely to run either Pam Bondi or Adam Putnam in 2018. The fight between them could be a fun one, but I'd bet on Bondi. Florida Democrats would either run Charlie Crist for reelection or, should he lose this year, some Central Florida mayor.

In New Jersey, maybe state Senator Joe Kyrillos, Assemblyman Jay Webber, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, or Senate President Steve Sweeney.

On my home state of Texas: I still do NOT see Cruz running for governor in 2018 or 2022. He's staying in the UNITED STATES SENATE .

Most likely soon-to-be Land Commissioner George P. Bush (R) is likely gunning for the Governor's Mansion once Abbott is done.

Here's a few that I can think of off the top of my head that might have a good chance of getting elected:

Ken Bennett (R-AZ)
Asa Hutchinson (R-AR)

Beau Biden (D-DE)
Charlie Christ (D-FL)
Jason Carter (D-GA
Mike Michaud (D-ME)
Anthony Brown (D-MD)
Mark Schauer (D-MI)
Peter Kinder (R-MO)
Steve Sweeney (D-NJ)
Ed FitzGerald (D-OH)
Allyson Schwartz (D-PA)
Gina Raimondo (D-RI)
Vincent Shaheen (D-SC)
Greg Abbott (R-TX)
Ralph Northam (D-VA)
Bill Maloney (R-WV)

Ignored people: stop wasting space/stop posting. This whole page is almost entirely people I have on ignore.

I'm not sure who would be the next Governor of Oklahoma, but I assume Todd Lamb goes for it, but he's pretty uninspiring.

Raul Labrador is another obvious one. Maybe Tim Ryan in Ohio.

In California, Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsome in 2018.

The bigger question is when will Feinstein retire ? Someone's gonna force her to retire, so that California needs NEW BLOOD in the United States Senate.

Colorado: depending on what happens to Hickenlooper, Ken Salazar if he's interested.

I forgot to mention Roy Cooper in my post. It looks likely that Pat McCrory will lose re-election in 2016 due to his increasing unpopularity.
