It can hurt him if he says something stupid, although I think any Republican will be held to a high standard of scrutiny on that, considering the possible associations with Quayle, W, Palin and Perry.

It can make Democrats look like snobs, for several reasons, including the fact that he left college in his senior year to take a decent job, which means that the main argument about a degree is that he lacks a piece of paper, rather than anything to do with whether he got a college education (He did.)
