If color printing had already been invented in the 18th century, what colors would the media or the parties themselves, respectively, have chosen to represent different political parties?

Red for the left and blue for the right.

The question is: What did "left" and "right" mean back then?
Who was more left-wing? The Democratic-Republican Party or the Federalists?
And which parties were left-wing or right-wing in 1860?
