Well, Oregon might be in play in 2014, so maybe it's time to open a thread.

Jessica Weyby would be a good recruit: pro SSM, moderate on abortion, anti health care. But she needs to win primaries.

Is Wehby really that much better than Conger?  Conger won in a pretty Democratic district as a state rep.

Wehby seems like my kind of Republican.

Conger has a bit of a SoCon streak, IIRC. Not great for Oregon.

Yeah, he is talking about how you don't have to be pro-SSM and pro-abortion to win in Oregon. Not a good strategy.

But aren't the bulk of Oregon Republicans basically Conger-type SoCons who live east of the Cascades?

Yes, but in order to win he needs to appeal to the Indies and Democrats, which are both more liberal. With the Republican vote alone he'd lose.

Art Robinson, the Oregon GOP Chairman and the same guy who said AIDs is a government conspiracy, that public education is child abuse and that we should sprinkle nuclear waste over the ocean, is now asking about 15,000 Oregonian volunteers to donate urine samples to him twice a year for the next 5 years so he can use it for scientific purposes. I think it's already set in stone that he'll lose in another landslide against DeFazio in a district that's barely more Democratic than the national average, but I think he wants to compete with Grothman now on who can be the worst and floppiest GOP House candidate and who can be the worst state GOP party this year. Tongue

This is good though. If Conger can get the nomination in the Senate race then which I'm crossing my fingers on, all we'll have to worry about is getting Schrader re-elected which shouldn't be much of a problem since he's a good fit for the district.

Wilamette Week has endorsed Conger in the GOP primary, saying that while Conger is probably too conservative to win in Oregon, he's more politically adept and able to run a competent campaign than Wehby, who suffered a bad interview performance.

We only have a poll, made in April for the OR primaries:
Jason Conger: 24%
Monica Wheby: 22%

So, no relevant.
Conger has been backed by the OR Right to life.

First of all, that poll was made by a left wing organization and I question it's neutrality.

Second of all, sinse its been released Wehby has been flexing her financial advantage by airing many television ads and having signs, bumper stickers, and the like distributed. Conger has a radio ad and I'm yet to see a sign for him.

Yes, that's why I have said this poll isn't relevant!

However seriously, Conger seems to be a decent candidate.

Probably not winnable, but I would consider it a win if we could at least put this race on the map.

Considering that he never filed a for a protective order, and they subsequently improved their friendship, I see no issue with this. Relationships can be complicated.

Another Wehby harassment accusation, though no charges were filed.

Why did Conger win Deschutes? Olds? Cross-registering Democratic saboteurs?
