Atlas, let's talk about 1996 if Bill Clinton had run an Occupy-style campaign - 15 years before anyone ever heard of the Occupy movement.

That means focusing on economic populism first and foremost, with also some focus on civil liberties. It means openly supporting repeal of all "right-to-work" laws. It also means he never would have supported school uniforms. And it means he would've vetoed the 1996 Telecommunications Act.

I'd always assumed he would have picked up Montana and South Dakota if he'd run a campaign like this. I think he also would have gotten Georgia, Colorado, and maybe even Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana - and perhaps even Texas or North Dakota.

I was alive in 1996, and an Occupy-style campaign is exactly what America was crying out for back then. Especially during the unprecedented disaster that was the 104th Congress.

A good opportunity was squandered.

No, Clinton was the President, not Ron Paul or an Occupy Protester. He was an establishment Candidate, and this sudden flip of Campaign messages would've weakened him against Dole and Perot*

*Perot was actually more likely to run an Occupy like Campaign.

But he could've run an Occupy-style campaign by running against the right-wing Congress.

I spent 1996 yelling at the TV for Clinton to say exactly the things that Occupy is saying now.

That's not an Occupy style Campaign, hell, Obama spent a good bit of 2012 speaking out against Boehner and McConnell.

Bill Clinton? Support Occupy-style messages? Good one! Next you'll tell me the KKK will come out in favor of racial tolerance and equality.
