Someone that doesn't take the politically popular position for the sake of being popular. So basically, someone that takes unpopular positions more often then not usually to piss off people.

I think he thinks that left-wing and right-wing correspond to social issues and not economic issues.

WM is a Moderate Villain. A moderate hero takes positions to please everyone and ends up pleasing no one (See: Joe Lieberman, Mark Pryor, Arlen Specter). WM takes positions that everyone hates, on purpose, and also ends up pleasing no one.
