Joseph Taylor Robinson was eliminated on the first ballot of the Liberal leadership race. Alben Barkley also withdrew. Both backed Cordell Hull, who is leading a united Appalachian front against the clear frontrunner, Franklin Roosevelt. William Borah and Hiram Johnson are also both standing as Western and isolationist candidates. Roosevelt, at this point, appears unstoppable.
The first ballot of the Conservative race saw a completely unprecedented and shocking result: the incumbent leader was the first of several candidates to be eliminated. James Eli Watson trailed Herbert Hoover, Theodore Bilbo, and John Nance Garner. Equally shocking was the order in which the other three candidates came; Bilbo came in second to Hoover, and his showing was quite strong. Watson now bowed out completely, and gave his full backing to Garner.
My apologies, this week has been insane. I've also been torn with how to deal with nearly all of the Liberal candidates being tied for second.
Same procedure as before. If you vote for the wrong candidate by mistake, please just let me know. If you voted last round, please vote in the same race as you did before.
If anyone needs a refresher on the candidates' platforms, here you go.
