Maybe Washington?

Near universal public approval combined with the fact he proved his loyalty to the country by leading its troops in the Revolution.

"Grover the Good", most likely.

Maybe, maybe not.  There were several candidates for the father, but he was unmarried and the others were both married and his friends, including the man who most likely was the father, so he took the blame unto himself as it would cause the least scandal at that time.  Sort of ironic that he later married his friends's daughter thus it is quite possible that his alleged illegitimate child was actually his half-brother-in-law.  I think a good historical soap opera series could be written about him.

A good case can be made for Lincoln.

I agree. Hence that name "Honest Abe."

he pretended to write a book he didn't write, and hid his health conditions from the general public, along with having a ton of affairs.. I wouldn't say JFK was "trustworthy"

Washington, Lincoln, Truman, Eisenhower, and Carter are all candidates.

In my lifetime, I would say Eisenhower.

For all time, I would suggest Herbert Hoover.

I admire Washington and Lincoln greatly, and they are probably more honest than most of today's politicians, but it's hard to separate myth from reality about what happened so long ago.
